To enrich the campus cultural life of international students and promote fine traditional Chinese culture, the School of International Education launched a special national conditions education activity under the “Intangible Cultural Heritage at Beijing Polytechnic University” series on June 5. Titled “One Flower, One World; One Teacup, One Eastern Elegance”, the floral and tea culture study tour invited 40 international students to immerse themselves in the aesthetic lifestyle of traditional China amid lingering tea fragrance and elegant floral charm.

In the “Recognize Flowers by Aroma” session, students identified six dried flower sachets including jasmine, rose and osmanthus with their eyes covered, and competed to guess the flower names in either Chinese or English. Integrating traditional Chinese medicine health preservation concepts, the instructor shared the Eastern life philosophy ofkeeping in good health according to seasonal rhythms—drinking rose tea for soothing the liver in spring, chrysanthemum tea for eye care in summer, osmanthus tea for moisturizing the lungs in autumn, and jasmine tea for warming the stomach in winter. International students actively participated in interactive Q&A and learned to select suitable tea varieties for seasonal health care.

Afterwards, the tea artist demonstrated professional brewing skills including gaiwan tea preparation, the classic Three Phoenix Nods pouring gesture, and traditional finger tapping etiquette. Students practiced standard tea brewing and tea-serving manners on site, and perceived the core connotations of tea ceremony: respect, harmony, purity and tranquility.

As a vivid practice of the university’s national conditions education series, this study tour builds cross-cultural friendship through tea and flowers. It enables international students to closely experience the charm of Eastern aesthetics and traditional culture, and truly feel the warmth and profound heritage of Chinese culture in the soothing ambiance of tea and blossoms.
