The 28th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (BIHTE) was grandly held at the China National Convention Center from May 8 to 10. Four international students from Beijing Polytechnic University—Younsi Oumaima from the School of Automotive Engineering, Mohamed Daoud and Mohamed Baccour from the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and Mzoughi Mohamed Amine from the School of Integrated Circuits—served as official volunteers throughout the event. With solid professional competence, outstanding language skills and vibrant demeanors, they successfully completed various tasks including foreign guest reception, media coordination and on-site guidance, demonstrating the youthful spirit of university students at this national-level technological event.

Under the theme of "Technology Empowers a Shared Innovative Future", this year’s expo attracted more than 800 domestic and foreign enterprises and institutions. After rigorous selection and professional training, the four student volunteers undertook diverse and multi-scenario service responsibilities during the three-day exhibition.

During media sessions, the students assisted journalists with on-site interviews. When responding to Chinese media inquiries, they calmly shared their nationality, academic majors, and personal experiences of studying in China. Their authentic and vivid accounts reflected international youth’s recognition of and integration into China’s technological innovation ecosystem.

Among the four volunteers, Baccour and Amine were selected for the VIP reception team. They provided dedicated services for diplomatic delegations from the United Arab Emirates Embassy in China and the Ambassador of Jordan to China, among other distinguished foreign guests. Leveraging their proficient Arabic skills, the students communicated smoothly with foreign guests, built friendly interactions, and earned high praise from diplomatic representatives.

Thanks to their outstanding performance throughout the event, the four students stood out in the comprehensive volunteer evaluation and were awarded the title of "Excellent Volunteer". In addition to standard volunteer certificates, they received special recognition from the organizing committee, which also expressed its intention to continue cooperating with the university’s volunteer team for future exhibitions and events.

Reflecting on the experience, Baccour described the opportunity as unforgettable. He noted that the experience greatly improved his communication and on-site service capabilities and broadened his technological horizons through close exposure to cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements. Oumaima shared that the volunteer service allowed her to make new friends from various countries and gain precious friendships, enabling her to fully appreciate the integration of technology and humanity.

The outstanding performance and honors achieved by the university’s international students at the Beijing Science and Technology Expo vividly demonstrate the effectiveness of the university’s practical education and international talent cultivation practices. Moving forward, Beijing Polytechnic University will continue to build high-end practical platforms, encouraging more students to broaden their global vision while contributing to the construction of Beijing’s "Four Centers", and empowering the growth of high-quality technical and skilled professionals.
