University Hosts 2025 World Children’s Day Event, Calling on Youth to “Dare to Take Climate Action”

 On November 20, a grand event for World Children’s Day themed “Dare to Take Climate Action, Light Up Children’s Future” was held at Beijing Polytechnic University. Co-hosted by UNICEF, the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation, the Publicity and Education Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the Chinese Meteorological Society, the event was livestreamed nationwide across six major social media platforms. Vice President Chen Jiangfeng of the university attended and delivered a welcome speech.

 At the event, Chen Jiangfeng, together with Ms. Amakobe Sande, UNICEF Representative to China, Jiao Meiyan, Vice President of the Chinese Meteorological Society, Chen Yuxi, world champion diver and Climate Action Guardian of “Dare to Take Climate Action”, Liu Miao, invited expert on climate change for UNICEF and co-founder of the Climate Future Innovation Lab of the Yunqi Initiative, Zhang Sasa, lead host of the green skills (secondary vocational education) program under the Ministry of Education-UNICEF Adolescent Core Competency Development Project, and youth representatives from all over China, participated in an environmental art activity using recycled bottle caps. Together they created an environmental art installation to convey green concepts through creative action.

 Focusing on youth innovation and action in addressing climate change, the event showcased the younger generation’s climate responsibility through thematic sharing, art exhibitions and green skills practices. Teenage representatives from across the country shared low-carbon solutions proposed at the 30th UN Climate Change Conference, including renewable energy models and climate adaptation projects. Chen Yuxi shared her thoughts on climate change and her daily efforts in climate action, encouraging young people to start with small things around them and become “responsible actors” in tackling climate change.

 As one of the partner institutions of the UNICEF-Ministry of Education Green Skills Education Program, the university has actively participated in the development of green curricula and continuously expanded and deepened the field of green skills education. During the event, Ma Shuyan, a teacher from the Fashion Department of the School of Art and Design, led students to showcase professional works themed on intangible cultural heritage and environmental protection. The “Wind and Rain Together” student social practice team from the School of Integrated Circuits (Artificial Intelligence), guided by PE teacher Li Shuai, shared their innovative practices in applying knowledge and skills to address climate change in daily life. In addition, a volunteer team from the School of Arts and Sciences provided voluntary services during the event, and the Student Affairs Department of the University Party Committee organized student representatives from all secondary colleges to observe and learn.

 This event provided a platform for dialogue between young people, experts, scholars and public figures, while enhancing the university’s social influence. Taking this event as an opportunity, the university will continue to strengthen the cultivation of green skills among teachers and students, and strive to contribute vocational education strength to building a climate-resilient society.
